Sheng Mai San is an herbal blend of panax ginseng, ophiopogon tuber, and schizandra. All three herbs act together to tonify the qi, nourish the yin, and
restrain leakage of fluids.
Related Studies
In heat stressed rats Sheng Mai San shown to mitigate the exhaustion of myocardial creatine phosphate and cAMP (Zhong et al. 1989). Renal protection against ischemia due to heat injury has been demonstrated by this formula's ability to reduce peroxynitrite formation and reduce plasma levels of creatinie and blood urea nitrogen (Lee et al. 2005). In yet another study, the formula was shown to reduce intracranial hypertension and ischemic brain damage as measured by free radical presence and lipid peroxidation (Wang e al., 2005). Stabilizing the energy store in the myocardium and preventing oxidative and ischemic brain and kidney stress will promote cardiac output and improved performance during intense physical exertion in the heat.
